DVA was engaged by DuPont Fabros Technology to develop a new single-story pre-cast shell structure data center at the Ashburn Corporate Center in Virginia. The design addresses the requirements of a multi-tenant, Tier III data center facility having a gross square footage of 319,000 square feet and with a critical IT load of roughly 27.2 megawatts. With a calculated annualized PUE at design load for the facility of 1.2 or lower.

Computer room spaces are divided into separate rooms of approximately 8,900 square feet, including the Equipment Gallery, and the critical loads in individual rooms vary in density from 167 to 225 watts per square foot. Computer Room cooling is designed to operate at raised temperatures, operating within the recommendations of ASHRAE TC 9.9. Computer Rooms are designed to have Hot Aisle Containment and incorporate medium voltage electrical distribution.

The project consists of Computer Equipment Rooms on raised floor, Support Offices, General Support spaces and Infrastructure Support spaces and design with robust mechanical and electrical systems, designed with scalable flexibility. The data center is design to achieve a LEED Gold classification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Use Classification for this data center falls into the Office / Warehouse category.
